Chapter Two "Meet the Cabin Boy"

One Year Later (May 2014)

We have been on the “Painted Lady” Narrow Boat for one year now.

Meet the Cabin boy”

For six months of this I was pregnant and carrying your first child.

On January 6th 2014 at 23.50 I gave birth to a 6lbs baby boy who we call Callan Marian Franklin Baxter.

I the best thing about Callan being born on the 6th January 2014 meant that he was the “last Christmas baby” since the 6th January 2014 is Epiphany.

We picked the name Callan due to it being an old Gaelic name, one of the definition of his name is “New Year”, “Powerful in battle” and “Rock”. I personal think that his suites him well since he was born almost a month early and should have been born on 31st January 2014 the “Chinese New Year.”

Due to Callan almost being born on the boat and us being moored at the “Kings Head” Pub in Atherstone for a couple of weeks after his birth. This was where we had to register has his address on his birth certificate. This is due to living on the cut and not having a fixed address, we are registered as being homeless with Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council.

Because of this intresting instight into canal living, one of Callan's first photos was taken by the local papers and a short article was done to promote the pub and George Eliot Hospital for there support throughout my pregnancy and the first few weeks of Callan's birth.

Since bring Callan home, life as been pretty much the same as it was before he was born. There is just an extra mouth to feed and one more person to find space for where space can be some what “limited” when living on a Narrow boat.
